The Golden Lotus banana is known for its striking golden, lotus-like bloom that can last months. It is very hardy and can tolerate colder temperatures compared to tropical banana species, making it suitable for temperate climates. It originates from the mountains of Yunnan Province in China. The compact plant does produce a banana fruit, however, due to the small fruit size and many seeds it is not used for eating. The inner stem and rhizome are edible when cooked or pickled and the bright yellow bracts have medicinal properties.
